R18+ classification preparations starting in Australian retail

After years and years of hard work and pleading for the classification, Australian retailers are finally set to start implementing R18+ preparations so more gruesome gaming titles (which would have been banned before) may be purchased. This is a massive step for the Aussie gaming industry and will be supported by the majority of gamers in the country. JB Hi-Fi, Big W, Target, Ebay Australia, Kmart, Dick Smith, and Harvey Norman have all been contacted to start preparing for one of the most significant step-ups in Australian classification history. R18+ ratings will be put into effect January 1st, 2013. Do you think games should be given R18+ classifications or should they just be banned altogether?

The Classification Board has already held meetings with major retailers to discuss their obligations when the new law takes effect. During these discussion, the Classification Board sought the guidance of retailers prior to producing appropriate signage as well as training programs for staff, so that informed measures could be put in place in preparation for the new law.
